FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Questions about our
Programmes
Do these programmes incorporate the CAPS requirements and the ELDA development areas?
-
Yes, they do. In fact, the programmes are developed with continual reference to these documents.
How does the NCF programme use the ELDAs?
-
We have a page on our website dedicated to answering this question - Day By Day and the ELDAs
Where do I find the ELDAs within the NCF programme?
-
Each daily lesson plan has a reference to 2 of the ELDAs.
-
This reference is carried over to the observation sheet and from there to the report.
What is the difference between the Grade R Regular and Grade R Premium materials?
-
While our CAPS regular programme does follow the CAPS Grade R curriculum our CAPS Premium is an updated version and has several differences:
-
There are separate Mathematics and Language books which incorporate Life Skills through the themes.
-
These are stapled books and not tear-off pads to assist with dealing with a bigger group.
-
The CAPS requirements are cross-referenced throughout the programme.
-
There is an additional tear-off pad which contains colour cut out pages and the individual rubrics.
-
The resources for the daily plans are on our website ready to print.
What is the point of the folders?
-
The presentation of the material in a folder keeps everything together which is better for packing, storage, and professional appearance.
-
The folder can be put to one side to keep it clean until the end of term when it can be used for presentation of some of the children’s work, drawings and paintings, etc.
Why is the Toddler material not in a folder?
-
Because the Toddler material is printed on A3 the cost of an A3 folder would make it far too expensive.
-
An alternative could be to use A3 plastic storage envelopes.
Why is the Toddler material bigger?
-
Small children need more space for bigger hand movements therefore the Toddler and Tiny Tots material is printed on A3.
Why do the Tiny Tots and Toddlers guides use the same guidebook?
-
There is an overlap of age groups with the Toddlers and Tiny Tots. In many schools these age groups are combined or children may be moved during the course of the year.
-
Their skills are very similar therefore it is not necessary to separate the daily plans into separate guidebooks.
-
Even if a child repeats some of the themes, their perception and skill level will be different.
Is the programme recognised by the DBE?
-
As a private company we are not sponsored by the DBE. We pride ourselves that our programmes meet and exceed South African standards.
Does it matter if I use a programme that follows South African guidelines?
-
That depends on how the school positions itself and what it offers to parents.
I can get lots of material and preschool activities free off the internet, why should I use this?
-
You can indeed get a lot of ‘stuff’ on the internet, but what you can’t get is a carefully curated, complete programme like the one Day By Day offers.
Do you provide training workshops for teachers on how to teach your curriculum?
-
Our material is basically self-explanatory. However, we are always on hand to answer questions and receive feedback.
In which languages is the curriculum available?
-
Everything we offer is available in English or Afrikaans with the exception of the CAPS Grade R guidebooks.
